You may not think of “bastard” as an expletive in every context, but most media organizations happen to see it that way, as well as advertising giants like Google, Facebook and Amazon. That’s created a hurdle for my book’s publicity, despite positive reviews from Kirkus and Publisher’s Weekly. And even though the word is simply used to describe the circumstances of my adoption, in many cases I’ve even had to censor the title on ad-copy!
